Hiring a full scale aircraft to take aerial pictures can cost hundreds of dollars an hour. Full scale aircraft are also resrticted by the Federal Aviation Administration on where and how low they can fly. The FAA has mandatory minimum altitudes of 500 feet for rural areas and 1000 feet for congested areas. By using a remotely piloted aerial platform we are not bound by those rules. In fact, there is a mandatory maximum altitude for radio controled aircraft of 400 feet. Of course for the type of photography we do, about 100 will yield a great looking picture.
At Hovershot we use a Hirobo Shuttle Plus radio controlled helicopter. This aircraft, which is powered by a nitromethane/alchohol mixture has main rotor diameter of 49 inches and a length of 49 inches. It is very quiet in flight and very safe to fly.
